Famloop is an iPhone and iPad application developed and owned by Aifinity Solutions ("Aifinity", "we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what information Famloop collects, why it collects it, who can see it, how long we keep it, and the control you have over it.
Famloop is a consent-based family safety app. It only shows a person's location if that person installed the app, joined a private group, and turned location sharing on themselves. There is no way to use Famloop to locate someone secretly, to locate someone from a phone number, or to locate someone who has not installed the app and agreed to share.
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at info@aifinitysolutions.com.
1. The short version
- Famloop shows your location to the people in your Loop, which is a small private group you choose to join.
- Location sharing is opt in. You can pause it or leave a Loop at any time, from inside the app.
- Nobody can turn on sharing for you. Only you can do that, on your own device.
- We show every location with an honest age. If your location is old, the app says so instead of pretending it is current.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
- You can export your data and delete your account from inside the app.
This summary is provided for convenience. The full policy below is what governs our handling of your information.
2. Who we are
Famloop is developed and owned by Aifinity Solutions, a company based in India.
The data controller for Famloop is:
Aifinity Solutions
India
Email: info@aifinitysolutions.com
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, you may contact us at the same email regarding any matter under the GDPR or UK GDPR, including a request to exercise any of the rights in section 10.
If you are in India, you may contact our grievance officer at the same address. We will respond within the timelines required by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
3. What a Loop is, and who can see your location
A Loop is a private group. Location visibility in Famloop works only inside a Loop, and only in these conditions:
- You installed Famloop and created an account.
- You joined a Loop using an invitation link or code.
- You granted the app permission to use your location.
- You turned location sharing on.
When those conditions are met, the other members of that Loop can see your position on their map, along with the age of that position, your approximate battery level when your device reports it, and the events described in this policy.
Some further limits worth stating plainly:
- Members of one Loop cannot see the locations of members of any other Loop.
- If you belong to several Loops, you control your visibility separately for each one.
- A Loop owner or admin can remove a member, which immediately stops that member from seeing the Loop's location data. Removing a member does not give anyone extra access to that member's data.
- Turning sharing off, or leaving a Loop, stops new location data from being shown to that Loop.
- We do not offer public profiles, public discovery, or messaging outside a Loop you joined.
4. Information we collect
This section describes each category of information, why we process it, the legal basis we rely on under the GDPR where that applies to you, and how long we keep it.
Account and profile information
What we collect: your display name, your email address, an Apple account identifier if you use Sign in with Apple, and an optional profile photo you choose to upload.
Why: to create and secure your account, to show other members of your Loop who you are, and to contact you about the service.
Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
Retention: for as long as your account exists, then deleted or anonymized as described in section 8.
Location information
What we collect: latitude and longitude, the accuracy of that reading, speed and direction of travel where available, the timestamp recorded on your device, the timestamp at which our server received it, and a description of the state of your device's location services at the time.
Famloop collects location in the foreground and, if you allow it, in the background. Background collection is what makes arrival alerts and Safe Arrival Timers work when the app is not open. The app varies how often it collects location in order to reduce battery use, and increases the rate during an active Live Tracking session or while a Safe Arrival Timer is running.
Why: to display your position to the members of the Loops you share with, to detect arrivals and departures at your saved places, to run Safe Arrival Timers, to build your location history, and to power Live Tracking and estimated arrival times.
Legal basis: your consent. You give that consent by granting the iOS location permission and turning sharing on, and you can withdraw it at any time by pausing sharing, revoking the permission in iOS Settings, or leaving the Loop. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place.
Retention: your most recent position is kept until it is replaced by a newer one or until you stop sharing. Your location history is kept according to your plan, as described in section 8.
Saved places
What we collect: the label you give a place, such as Home, School or Work, its coordinates, and the radius you set for it.
Please note that a saved place is often the address of a home or a school, including a child's school. Treat this information as sensitive, and only add places you are comfortable sharing with the Loop members who receive alerts for them.
Why: to send arrival and departure alerts, and to describe your location history in terms you recognize.
Legal basis: your consent.
Retention: until you delete the place, leave the Loop, or delete your account.
Place, timer and safety events
What we collect: records that you arrived at or left a saved place, that a Safe Arrival Timer was started, extended, completed, cancelled or missed, that a Live Tracking session started or ended, that you sent an SOS, and that you checked in as safe. These records include the time of the event and the location it relates to.
Why: to notify the members you selected, and to show the safety feed and history inside the app.
Legal basis: your consent, and our legitimate interest in operating the safety features you asked us to run.
Retention: as described in section 8.
Driving and speed information
What we collect: estimated speed derived from location readings, and an estimate of whether you are likely to be driving.
Why: to show recent speed where it is accurate enough to be trustworthy, and to send an overspeed alert if a member of your Loop has configured one and you have agreed to share with that Loop.
Legal basis: your consent.
Retention: as part of your location history, as described in section 8.
Speed derived from GPS can be delayed or wrong. Famloop marks speed as unavailable when the reading cannot be trusted, and it is never a certified measurement of how fast a vehicle was travelling.
Loop messages
What we collect: the text of messages you send in a Loop chat, and the time you sent them.
Why: to deliver those messages to the other members of that Loop.
Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
Retention: until the message is deleted, the Loop is deleted, or your account is deleted, whichever happens first.
Loop chat is not end to end encrypted in this version. Messages are encrypted in transit and at rest, but we hold the keys, which means we are technically able to access message content and may be required to disclose it under section 7. Please do not use Loop chat for information you would not want us to be able to read.
Device and diagnostic information
What we collect: device model, operating system version, app version, language and region settings, a push notification token, the battery level your device last reported, and the status of the permissions the app relies on.
Why: to deliver notifications, to show battery level to your Loop, to tell you honestly why location is not updating, and to diagnose faults.
Legal basis: performance of our contract with you, and our legitimate interest in keeping the service working correctly.
Retention: for as long as your account exists.
If you contact support, you may choose to send a diagnostic report. That report contains the app version, device and operating system version, permission states, the time of your last successful sync, and error codes. It does not include your location history unless you explicitly choose to include it.
Subscription information
What we collect: whether you hold an active subscription, which plan, and the identifiers our billing provider uses to track that.
We do not receive or store your payment card details. Payment is handled by Apple through the App Store.
Why: to unlock premium features for you and, where the plan allows it, for the members of your Loop.
Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
Retention: for as long as needed to manage your subscription and to meet our tax and accounting obligations.
Analytics
What we collect: anonymous, aggregated usage events, for example that onboarding was completed, that a Safe Arrival Timer was started, or that a paywall was shown.
We do not include coordinates, addresses, invitation codes, message contents, names or email addresses in analytics. Analytics are kept separate from location data.
Why: to understand which parts of the app work and which do not.
Legal basis: your consent, where consent is required in your region.
Retention: analytics events are anonymous and are kept only in aggregate form. They cannot be traced back to you and are not linked to your account or your location data.
5. What Famloop does not do
To be explicit, Famloop does not:
- Locate anyone who has not installed the app and agreed to share.
- Locate anyone from a phone number, an email address, or a social media profile.
- Allow one person to enable location sharing on behalf of another person.
- Hide the fact that sharing is active from the person who is sharing.
- Sell your personal information, or share it for cross context behavioural advertising.
- Contain advertising software development kits.
- Use your location to build advertising or marketing profiles.
- Make automated decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
- Contact emergency services on your behalf. See section 12.
6. Permissions the app asks for, and why
Famloop asks for the following on your device. You can change any of them later in iOS Settings, and the app will keep working with reduced functionality and tell you what has been affected.
- Location, While Using the App. Shows you on your family map and gives you directions while the app is open.
- Location, Always. Lets your Loop see fresh updates, arrival alerts and Safe Arrival Timer status when the app is not open. Without this, background features will not work reliably.
- Precise Location. Without this, iOS gives the app only an approximate area, which is not accurate enough for arrival alerts or Safe Arrival Timers to be dependable.
- Notifications. Delivers arrival alerts, timer alerts, SOS alerts and messages.
- Photo library access. Requested only at the moment you choose to set a profile photo.
Famloop is designed to degrade honestly. If a permission is missing, the app tells you and tells the people relying on you, rather than showing a stale position as though it were current.
7. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these circumstances.
With the members of your Loop. This is the purpose of the app, and it happens only under the conditions in section 3.
With service providers who process data on our behalf. These providers act on our instructions and are bound by contract. They are:
- Apple, for Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, push notification delivery, and maps and directions.
- Google Firebase, based in the United States, for storing account, Loop, location and message data.
- RevenueCat, based in the United States, for managing subscription entitlements.
- Aptabase, for anonymous product analytics.
For legal reasons. We may disclose information where we are required to do so by law, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of a person, to investigate fraud or abuse, or to enforce our terms.
In a business transfer. If Aifinity Solutions is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
8. How long we keep information
Location history retention depends on your plan:
- Free plan: location history is kept for 2 days, then deleted.
- Premium plan: location history is kept for up to 365 days, then deleted.
If a Premium subscription ends, history reverts to the free retention period, and older history is deleted.
Other data is kept as follows:
- Your most recent position is kept only until a newer one replaces it, or until you stop sharing.
- Place, timer and safety event records follow the same retention period as your location history.
- Saved places, account details and Loop membership are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
- Backups may retain deleted data for up to 30 days before they are rotated out.
When you delete your account, we delete or irreversibly anonymize the personal data associated with it, other than records we are required to keep for legal, tax or fraud prevention reasons.
9. Where your information is processed
Famloop is available in the United States, Mexico and Germany, and your information may be processed in a country other than the one you live in.
Your account, Loop, location and message data is stored in the United States, on Google Firebase. Aifinity Solutions is based in India. Apple and RevenueCat are also based in the United States.
This means that if you use Famloop from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, your personal data is transferred out of that region. Where we make such a transfer, we rely on an appropriate safeguard under Chapter V of the GDPR. For providers certified under the EU to US Data Privacy Framework, including Google, we rely on that certification. Otherwise we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses together with any additional measures those clauses require. You can request details of the safeguard that applies to a particular transfer by writing to info@aifinitysolutions.com.
10. Your rights and choices
Controls inside the app
You do not need to write to us to exercise the most important controls. Inside Famloop you can:
- Pause and resume location sharing at any time.
- Control your visibility separately for each Loop you belong to.
- Leave a Loop.
- Add, edit and delete saved places and alert rules.
- Cancel or complete a Safe Arrival Timer, and stop a Live Tracking session.
- Change your notification preferences.
- Delete your location history.
- Request an export of your personal data.
- Delete your account and the data associated with it.
Legal rights
Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights: to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we process it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw a consent you previously gave.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, these rights come from the GDPR. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of what we did before you withdrew it. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. In Germany, that is the data protection authority of your federal state.
If you are in Mexico, you have ARCO rights under the Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties, meaning access, rectification, cancellation and opposition, together with the right to revoke your consent and to limit the use or disclosure of your data.
If you are in the United States, some states give you the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in those laws, and we do not offer financial incentives in exchange for personal information.
To exercise a right that is not available inside the app, write to info@aifinitysolutions.com. We will respond within the period required by the law that applies to you, and we may need to verify your identity before acting.
11. Children and family use
Famloop is designed for families, and we expect that a parent or guardian will often set up the app on a child's device.
Accounts must be created by an adult. Famloop is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly allow a child to create their own Famloop account. Where an adult sets up Famloop on a device used by a child, that adult is responsible for obtaining the consent required in their country, for explaining to the child what is being shared and with whom, and for supervising the child's use of the app.
In the European Economic Area, the age at which a child can consent for themselves to online services varies between 13 and 16 depending on the country. In Germany it is 16. Where the user is below that age, consent must be given or authorized by the holder of parental responsibility.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without the appropriate consent, contact info@aifinitysolutions.com and we will delete it.
12. Safety features are not emergency services
This matters, so we state it directly.
Famloop's SOS, check in and Safe Arrival Timer features notify the members of your Loop. They do not contact the police, ambulance, fire service or any other emergency service. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
These features also depend on things outside our control, including your device having battery, a working data connection, and the location permissions described in section 6. A Safe Arrival Timer will still alert your Loop if you do not check in, but if your device is offline the alert will say honestly that your location is unavailable rather than guess where you are. Do not rely on Famloop as your only safety measure.
13. Security
We protect your information with measures including encryption of all network traffic using TLS, encryption of sensitive data at rest, storage of authentication tokens in the iOS Keychain, server side checks on every request so that one Loop can never read another Loop's data, expiring and revocable invitation codes, and rate limiting to resist abuse.
No service can promise perfect security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant regulators where the law requires it.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. When we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page and give you notice in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Famloop after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
